October Morning Routine Goals

Happy October, y’all! My favorite month of the year is finally here. What a blessing.

With the start of a new month, I decided to set some goals for my morning routine and daily lifestyle. As college students, it’s hard for us to have a set routine each morning because of the inconsistency of our daily lives. Some nights, I stay up until 2:00am finishing a paper, while others I treat myself to Netflix in bed at 8:00pm. Either way, my goal for October is to create a steady morning routine to start the day the right way.

Wake up around the same time everyday.

I am not a morning person at all, but this is so important to creating a normal schedule. Once your body adjusts to waking up at a consistent time, it becomes easier to wake up and get out of bed each day. My classes/work start everyday at 9:00am, so I would typically roll out of bed around 8:00am, brush through my hair a few times, choke down some cereal, and then dash off. However, I’ve noticed that once I get to where I’m going, I feel rushed, exhausted, and unprepared for the day. My goal for this month is to get up at 7:00am to give myself time to fully wake up and get ready for the day.

Shower in the mornings.

While I’ve always loved to shower in the mornings rather than at night, every year when I go back to college, I begin to do this less and less because sleep becomes the most important thing. However, I’ve noticed that on mornings when I get up just a few minutes earlier to shower, I seem to be much more awake than on days when I sleep until the latest possible moment. It also just makes me feel cleaner and fresher throughout the day.

Prepare good food for the day.

This one is the hardest for me to make time for, but probably the most important for the day overall. On days when I know I’ll be out and about for lunch, I’ll try to make something balanced and fulfilling to take with me. For example, last week, once I got my coffee brewing and bread in the toaster for a light breakfast, I cooked some rice and chicken breast in the skillet for lunch later in the day. It was such a treat to have it to look forward to all day, and it made me feel so much better than when I just carry a PB&J for lunch. This is a goal that I’d love to make more consistent in my routine.

Making small goals and adjustments like these are incredibly helpful for living a healthy, balanced lifestyle. In college, my life is rarely as structured as I would like. Adding these little changes to things I know I have control over really have an impact on the whole day.

I love this post!! This is definitely something that I have been trying to work on as well! Helpful tip: try meal prepping for a couple days in advance. It’s been a lifesaver for me! Make your rice and chicken the night before and make enough for 2 days worth of lunches!

My most recent morning goal is waking up 20-30 minutes earlier than î normally do to make sure to have extra time for walking, feeding, and playing with my new puppy!
